Let’s take a look at ways you can combat bad breath:

  1. Practice Good Dental Hygiene – The leading cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene, which means you need to brush and floss your teeth daily to remove food and debris that cause tooth decay.  Remember to brush twice a day and to floss daily.  And don’t forget to brush your tongue!
  2. Prevent Dry Mouth – Dry mouth is an ideal environment for bacteria that causes bad breath.  When your mouth doesn’t produce enough saliva, food particles that would normally be washed away remain in your mouth, allowing bacteria to grow. To combat dry mouth, drink plenty of fluids—especially water.
  3. Watch What You Eat – What you eat can play a large role in the smell of your breath.  To avoid bad breath, avoid foods with garlic or onion, as these trigger foul  smelling breath. Instead, increase your daily intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, which naturally clean your mouth.
